4-H Activities

Learn the secret to success​ for bread baking! Pull out your flour and rolling pins and get ready to cook! Each grade division has a different bread to bake. With proper techniques and the right recipe, you can have a very tasty product. Entries are submitted to the 4-H Office.

An exciting, competitive activity designed to test 4-H’ers’ knowledge of beef cattle and the beef industry. The event is held in conjunction with the Tennessee Cattleman’s Association Convention.

Beef Quiz Bowl Contest

Offers 4-H members an opportunity to learn public speaking and presentation skills through contests conducted at their local club meetings. Contestants can advance to win county ​and sub-regional awards.​

4th – 12th grades members create a piggy bank using recycled materials. This is a great creative contest while getting youth to think about the importance of saving! This contest is held during the month of January.

2021 County Winning Banks

Sponsored by the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association (SUDIA) and provides opportunities for 4-H members to build skills in project areas such as communications, leadership/citizenship, consumer science, health/fitness, dairy foods, and food/nutrition. 4-Her’s may also show off their artistic talents by creating a promotional poster.

June Dairy Month Chairman & Poster Contest​​

Offers 4-H members the opportunity to display their artistic talents through contests conducted at their local club meetings. Contestants can advance to win county, regional and state awards.​ This contest is conducted in January.

4-H Clover Bowl is a contest for 4-8th graders that tests 4-H’ers knowledge in 4-H, Tennessee, Agriculture, and Family and Consumer Sciences.​ This event is held in Cookeville, TN in May.

4th – 12th grade members can overcome the biggest fear in the world… speaking in front of people! Choose a topic and write a speech about it. The contest is held during the month of November.

An exciting, competitive activity designed to test 4-H’ers’ knowledge of dairy cattle and the dairy industry. The event is held in conjunction with the June Dairy Month Kick Off luncheon.​

Babysitting R.O.C.K.S (Recognizing Outstanding Creative Kids and Sitters) is a one day workshop for teens who are interested in learning what it takes to be a responsible and professional babysitter.​

4th – 12th grade members can learn how to raise and care for chickens. You will purchase your 4-H chickens through the 4-H Office. In August, we will host a show and auction where you can show and sell some of the chickens you have raised.

4-H Chick Chain

Provides junior high 4-Her’s the opportunity to receive intensive training in their project area under the supervision of UT specialist and to explore related career opportunities.

A yearly event that recognizes the outstanding project work and leadership accomplishments of senior 4-H members.

A program for junior high youth enrolled in 4-H. The Life Skills regional judging activity consists of centers that incorporate various subjects in Family and Consumer Sciences.

A family conference designed for those who want to learn about the 4-H sheep project. This two-day event held at Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville provides hands on learning experiences, as well as opportunities to meet and make new sheep friends from across the state.

Want to learn how to use a sewing machine to create your own items? We begin with the basics!

Want to learn more about cattle, sheep, goats, hogs, and dairy cattle. The 4-H Livestock Projects offers projects for each of these animals. From showing to judging to learning how to care for them we offer hands on learning!

This multi-state conference brings together 4-H adults and teens and encourages them to make positive changes across the region through youth-adult partnerships.

Good consumer skills can help you get more for your money! Consumer Decision Making gives youth the opportunity to make wise decisions when shopping. Consumer Decision Making is a judging contest designed to teach kids to observe, compare and make consumer based decisions based on facts. 4-Hers use their consumer knowledge to rank similarly based products to fit a given scenario.  Kids learn to organize their thoughts and to defend their decisions in oral reasons.​​

A recognition event for Tennessee’s state project achievement winners. Congress is held in Atlanta, Georgia and offers delegates the opportunity to learn news skills, experience Atlanta’s culture and make new friends from across the nation.

A group of vivacious high school teens who love to sing and dance! Each year the troupe performs a variety of themed shows for conferences, conventions and various public events across the state. Visit the Web site to learn how to become a member or book a show.

There are a variety of 4-H Summer Camps available for young people in 4th to 12th grades.​

9th & 10th grade 4-H’ers experience the day-to-day functioning of state government by assuming the roles of state representatives and senators.
